By now it's been over half a year, so I decided it would be nice to look at how much progress I've made on my 2025 creative bingo I made at the start of the year to give myself some more motivation to write, such as completing projects that have been on my mind or have been ongoing for a while and still have not been finished.
As of the day this is being posted, I have completed 10 out of 25 bingo slots.
Thoughts so far:
I am happy, all things considered. I had a whole month where I hadn't posted anything, and writing was also bad then too. All of my works have also been on the shorter side, which I do wish to change as the year progresses. I've been doing a lot of challenges, so my ideas default to being shorter for them, while I normally prefer longer works, at least by my standards. That would be at least 2k words per work. In reality, this is short still, but to me, it feels not exactly short the same way a drabble is short or a ficlet is short. For the latter half of the year, I've reduced the number of challenges entering to zero, not counting one that's ongoing now. This will probably help with my will to write works that are a bit longer. I will still participate in a few events, mainly one hosted by ficwip as those were planned and overlap with some of my goals and my own IDV Secret Santa exchange (thought this one is still not 100% confirmed on my side)
The two most difficult challenges to finish are completing Lifeless Stars and A little more warmth, mainly due to the fact that they're multichapter works. The latter is easier as I do have it planned out and it ended up being only a few more chapters long, but Lifeless Stars is a longer project, one that I want to be perfect in my eyes. I love alvaluca so much and they deserve another nice longfic that's finished and enjoyable.
The one other square I'm also iffy on finishing is the 'rewrite a bsd fic' one. At the beginning of the year, I was a lot more enthusiastic about this, as I was in a particular mood, that did not last that long now that I think about it. I would not rule out completion of this, but I would not be surprised if it was left uncompleted by the end of December.
Which squares do I wanna fill the most?
Starting/continuing to work on specific names fics are probably my main priorities right now. I'm aiming for one chapter to say it has been started being worked on, and for 'It's hard to say that everything will be okay' to finish the chapter I am on now (chapter 3) and finish a scene in a chapter much later in the story to a degree it's not even numbered. Probably start another chapter too. Most of these can be left for the latter part of the year still (November/December).
I also really wanna do the dofulaw fic, at least something short. My main idea for them is a longfic one, so it might take a while before I allow myself to work on it. Until then, I will pounce around some of my smaller thoughts and hope it can become a fic. Finishing off 'Let me down slowly' should also happen soon since I started working on the last chapter.
Final thought: How much will I finish by the end of the year?
My best guess is that I will finish one diagonal and one column by the end of 2025. Free space still doesn't have a specification on what it will be, but it could be participating in a specific event I know I will finish. When it comes to unfinished squares, I will carry them over to next year while adding new stuff where my finished squares are now.
I enjoyed my journey with this bingo so far and I hope it goes well until the end of the year too!
